According to Prad.de, some companies are using 4k panel in their 1440p monitors.

This happens because, as it said, the costs of producing a 27-inch 3840 x 2160 panel is often lower than producing a 27-inch 2560 x 1440 QHD panel. Which manufacturers might be engaging in this practice is not mentioned, however.

On E3 2017, 4K was the biggest buzzwords. So what is a “K”, and why do four of them make a better picture?

The” K” in 4K is taken from the prefix kilo-, meaning “thousand,” which comes to English from French. “K” is often used where typing out “thousand”, in addition: “Crowdfunding Raised $500K” or “I’ve reached 50K subecriber”

In 4K resolution, “K” is more of a marketing ploy than a real number. It represent 3840×2160 pixels, which is one of the higher resolutions available in consumer electronics. Marketers call this resolution 4K because it’s almost four thousand pixels across, because it sounds more impressive than “3.84K”.
